Fall is For....

Storing away produce for the winter.
Studying for the National Bible Bee Competition!!!
Intentional time together......when some of use haven't seen each other for days!
Chilly power walks.:)
Going to the park.
Playing with Dad on a rare evening when he's not in the fields.
Canning + freezing all sorts of yummy things.
Combining!
Butchering pigs + deer for fresh meat.....ohh yes!
Barn chores- Liz recently started taking on some regular responsibilities in the barn, and she is doing a great job. Mother went out to help her one morning, and of course they had a blast!
And last but not least, fall is for baking!!! One of our seasonal favorites is Apple Danish.

"Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labor that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion." Ecclesiastes 5:18

  1. Very fun! I keep meaning to ask since your food always looks AMAZING - where do you get most of your recipes from? Are there any cookbooks that you can recommend? Or do you have a place on your website where you post recipes? Also, could you open a restaurant right by my house where we could come and eat all of our meals - would that be too much to ask? he he:)

  2. Hey Sonya!

You're so sweet.:) We do really like to eat!

We like our tried and true Mennonite cookbooks, as well as several newer cookbooks with healthier recipes. One favorite is "A Better Weigh" by Cindy Mullet. But the majority of our recipes are made up- we are "a little of this and a pinch of that" kind of cooks.:) But for baking and such we often do use recipes from the aforementioned cookbooks or Pinterest.

Allison will be posting some recipes on her blog, www.fromallison.com, soon, so subscribe to that if you are interested in more recipes!

  4. Denver, Hudson, and Rebecca are competing at the National Bible Bee Competition this year, but Elizabeth participated in the summer program and Josh and Taylor have also competed multiple times in the past.
