Summer 2016 || Update from Carson

Today we are sharing with you a little update on the life of the fourth-born in our family...Carson!

Many of you have noticed that he isn't touring with our family anymore, and lots of you have asked what he is up to and what is happening in his life! So here is an update!

Carson is twenty years old. He has played the bass guitar in our family band, and he also was our sound man + bus mechanic. (we sure miss his skills!)

He has a love for country life and mechanics, and decided to leave the family band this spring to pursue his career in all things grease and grime. =) Of course we miss him greatly but couldn't be happier for him to be pursuing his dreams!

He is still living at home so whenever we aren't on tour we are still able to be with him which is awesome. He does his mechanic work out of our shop and takes orders for all kinds of mechanic projects.
We stayed in touch with Carson via our family text loop, Instagram, and Voxer. What grand inventions we have with modern technology! Such a blessing. He kept a very busy schedule this summer and his hours ended up being totally different than ours. (he was early to bed, early to rise---typical life of a farmer =)) Our schedule, on the other hand, was our normal concert schedule which is late nights and semi-late mornings. But we still made it a priority to stay in touch, and pictures/messages from him were always a family highlight.
One day he sent us the above picture of his four-wheeler, stuck, while he was out fixing fence.
Carson is our master grill chef and meat lover. One of his specialties is homemade jerky.
We recently got a new grill/smoker and he had fun trying that out for a new batch of jerky.
He mostly sent us food pictures. =) I wasn't sure how the cooking would go for him but he had fun and learned alot! We had quite a few interesting conversations explaining how to make various things he was craving. =)
A picture of a cake he made...
Allison left Carson this sign on our chalkboard door. Some of his friends really got a kick out of it. =)
We came home and there was still no wife, so...guess we'll have to write it next tour, too! =)
He sent us this picture of our front garden/fields one morning at 5am. Whereupon we all sat down and cried from sheer homesickness. Well, not quite. But close!
In additional to his own mechanic work, Carson also took care of the hogs, ran the farm, and filled in with some of the milkings for our hired guy.
A picture of a hay field he raked one day...
Bringing a load of hay home...
One of his projects
I taught him how to make mashed potatoes (over the phone) and he made them multiple times after that! Whenever he sent us pictures of his food we were always so impressed-he really did a great job.
Many runs were made to the local Napa dealer...that would be the life of a mechanic!
Our friend Charlie came and visited Carson for a week to work on the farm. From the sound of things and the pictures they sent, they had an awesome time!
They took this picture one night when they went to the Johnson County Fair.
Charlie feeding calves.
In spite of a crazy work schedule, Carson kept up with friends and had some pretty fun social activities over the summer! Above, he and Charlie were invited over for supper with a group of friends. When Carson sent us this picture, I had to think how very blessed we kids are by the friends of ALL AGES that we have in our lives! This older couple (in the picture above) was also invited to the other friends' home the same night as Carson + Charlie. They are like adopted grandparents to all of these guys in the picture and one of the dearest couples you could imagine.
Another one of Carson's yummy spreads. He enjoyed some good produce from the gardens too!

Carson frying bacon...
We had some funny stories from several of his cooking escapades. We will be kind and not share. =) Overall it sounded like most things were eventually a success and quite edible!
Country boy breakfast.
hard at work.
I don't have a picture of it, but Carson also took a group of guys from our community/church through Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. From what we heard, he had a great group of attendees and got to see some fantastic results as different guys got started with budgeting and getting their financial lives in order.
I was so proud of Carson for reaching out and taking initiative with ministry opportunities like this.
Hard at work! We were so thankful for the pictures Charlie took, otherwise we wouldn't have had any pictures of Carson all summer!
This sight is like a little taste of heaven for a true farmboy. =)
Carson purchased this new tool box thing for his business. It looked pretty legit! He had fun organizing all of his tools in there!
One of our trucks, after a wash and wax.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. =) We were very thankful to hear that he did take a little time for something other than work! One weekend he went on a little kayak expedition with a friend, down a nearby river.
Setting up camp for the night!
More food....=)
We loved this picture he sent of a bunch of cattle down by the creek one hot summer day.
Fixing another one of the trucks with a friend.
Hope y'all enjoyed this little update from Carson's life! I originally asked him to write this post but that was over a month ago, and it didn't happen, and he is already on to his next adventure working for several weeks with a mechanic in Arkansas, so I have attempted to give you a little glimpse of his summer the best I know through what we heard via texts and pictures.

Maybe someday I will be able to talk him into writing his own post. (haha!)

that delighteth greatly in His commandments."
